On October 18, the Halloween-inspired Hallow’s End event returned to World of Warcraft with new cosmetic rewards for players to earn for a limited time. The new World of Warcraft rewards are based around the seasonal boss of Hallow’s End, the Headless Horseman, as players can earn new editions of his weapons, armor, and notorious mount for their collections.
The origins of Hallow’s End in World of Warcraft trace back to its predecessor, the real-time strategy game Warcraft 3. During the course of The Frozen Throne expansion, the undead banshee Sylvanas Windrunner and her minions broke free of the Lich King’s waning control. This splinter faction came to be known as the Forsaken, and would later join the Horde as one of the first playable races in World of Warcraft. The Forsaken celebrate Hallow’s End to commemorate their freedom, while the Worgen observe it as a grim reminder of the dangers they have overcome. Hallow’s End is currently available in The War Within and in WoW Classic.
From now until November 1, WoW players can face the Headless Horseman in a special boss battle at the Scarlet Monastery. Players who emerge victorious against the Headless Horseman in The War Within can earn new cosmetic rewards that are touched-up versions of past prizes. One piece of The Headless Horseman’s Ghoulish Armor set can be earned after defeating the Headless Horseman for the first time each day as a guaranteed drop, with no duplicate drops.

The Horseman’s Ghoulish weapons can also be obtained from Hallow’s End vendors located outside Stormwind and Orgrimmar in exchange for a currency called Tricky Treats. These treats can be obtained by finding Candy Buckets at inns throughout Azeorth, by completing seasonal quests, and by defeating the Headless Horseman. Past Hallow’s End rewards are also available from the Horseman and from vendors until the event ends.
Throughout Hallow’s End, WoW players can earn Loot-Filled Pumpkins once per day from the Headless Horseman boss encounter. These pumpkins have a chance of dropping The Headless Horseman’s Ghoulish Charger mount, which is an updated version of The Headless Horseman’s Steed. The latter steed was once considered one of the rarest mounts in World of Warcraft‘s long history due to its limited window of availability and low drop rate.
While all the new Hallow’s End cosmetic rewards are exclusive to The War Within, The Horseman’s Steed can also drop in Mists of Pandaria Classic. Between the return of Hallow’s End and the ongoing player housing stress test ahead of Midnight, World of Warcraft players have a busy weekend ahead.
