Logitech’s MX Master 4 has haptic feedback and an Actions Ring shortcut to help users save time

The wait is over. Logitech has just released a new version of its flagship productivity mouse and it’s called the MX Master 4.

The MX Master 4 is the successor to the extremely capable MX Master 3S. The MX Master 3S was a mouse I loved so much that I called it “the king of productivity mice”. So what has Logitech done to improve it?

The two headline new features are haptic feedback and the Actions Ring. The MX Master 4 now has a haptic motor that subtly vibrates the mouse when performing specific cations and shortcuts. This provides feedback to a user, letting them know their inputs have been registered.

Actions Ring is a new short cut feature that calls up a digital overlay on your screen with access to 8 shortcuts. These shortcuts are customisable with the Logi Options+ app. Each shortcut can have a further 9 nested shortcuts, which means the Action Ring can be configured with up to 81 shortcuts in total. Logitech says this can save up to 33% of a user’s time and reduce repetitive mouse movements by up to 63%.

One nifty way to use the Actions Ring is to map one of the shortcuts to Easy Switch. This lets you switch between devices without needing to lift the mouse up use the Easy Switch button.

Elsewhere, the MX Master 4 also has a slightly redesigned shape for comfort and buttons for better ergonomics. The Gesture button has been relocated above the Action Ring button, and the thumb scroll wheel is larger for easier reach and operation.

MX Master owners love their mice, and so the MX Master 4 has a more durable silicone surface that is resistant to stain and textured for better resistance to wear.

The MX Master 4 still connects over Bluetooth or with the Logi Bolt USB receiver. Battery life is unchanged. Logitech claims the MX Master 4 can last up to 70 hours on a full charge. A minute charge can provide up to three hours of use. The MX Master 4 also retains the 8K DPI sensor which can work on a multitude of surfaces including wood and glass.

I’ve been using the MX Master 4 for the past couple of days and my first impressions are largely positive. The new textured surface feels pleasant to grip, while the new Action Ring and repositioned Gesture button opens up new possibilities for customising shortcuts. Stayed tune for my full review.
