Google’s Search Live rolls out worldwide, here’s how you can start using it

Google has rolled out Search Live globally to more than 200 countries and territories, including Singapore.

The expansion is powered by Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model, which is built for multilingual use and designed to deliver more natural, conversational responses. For users, this means Search is no longer limited to typed queries. It can now understand context, follow conversations, and respond in their preferred language.

Why use Search Live?

Since it’s powered by Gemini, Search Live enables users to interact with Search in AI Mode using voice and camera. Instead of typing out keywords, you can speak your question and receive an audio response, making it especially useful when you’re on the move.

It also supports follow-up questions, allowing for a more fluid back-and-forth without starting a new search each time. Helpful web links are surfaced alongside responses, so users can do their own research.

Visual search through the camera is also possible. By pointing your phone at an object, landmark, or even text, you can ask questions in real time and get immediate, context-aware answers.

How to use Search Live?

Search Live is available on both Android and iOS devices. To use it, open the Google app on your device and tap on the “Search Live: button. To be fair, the button can be a bit ambiguous to users, so we’ve highlighted it in the screen capture below. You can also set up a widget for quick access on your home page. However, we noticed that on iOS at least, Search Live is only available on the “medium” widget.

What results do you get?

Using Search Live is like talking to a chatbot in real life. After asking your question, Search Live will respond to you in voice. If you find it difficult to keep up, you can tap on the “Transcript” button in the bottom-right corner to read and follow along. And if you have follow-up questions, you can just ask straightaway without starting a new search.

As it responds, it’ll also throw up links for you to do your own research and explore the topic further.
