Your Hong Kong weekend drinks guide for March 26-28

It’s still another week before the long Easter holiday, but the city’s bar scene is alive and kicking regardless. Gokan brings in chefs and bartenders from across China, South Korea and Japan for a night celebrating some of the best mixology from the three regions. The Doctor’s Residence by Dr Fern hosts an experimental concept from Osaka, and Bar Anima reopens on Stanley Street, rejoining the city’s handful of dedicated, Japanese-style outposts.

It’s a mega guest shift as bartenders and chefs representing China, South Korea and Japan gather at Gokan in Hong Kong for a new edition of the bar’s Far East Movement series.

Previous winners of the Altos Bartenders’ Bartender Award under Asia’s 50 Best Bars – Hope & Sesame co-owner Andrew Ho (2025) and Zest co-founder Demie Kim (2024) – will be at Gokan to deliver top-notch cocktails across two sessions.

Supporting these star bartenders are a trio of chefs. So Wai Hon, of Sun Hon Kee Restaurant in Fanling, will showcase his expertise in Hakka fisherman cuisine. Ryusuke Nakagawa of SG Group, the hospitality company behind Gokan, who is also the chef of Japanese cuisine at The SG Tavern in Tokyo, will share his specialities. Also present will be Steve Lee, co-founder and head chef of Korean restaurant I-Sang in Bangkok.
