Samsung Wallet app now works with digital keys for smart home locks

Samsung has finally given a powerful upgrade to its Samsung Wallet app, It now supports digital house keys from leading smart home locks.  

As announced in its official statement, the Samsung Wallet app will be adding Digital Home Key as a new feature. Previously, the app supported digital versions of your payment cards, membership passes, IDs, and digital car keys, but not digital house keys.

Samsung said this its Digital Home Key support uses an industry standard communication protocol, Aliro. This means the smart door lock support in the Samsung Wallet app is compatible with most leading smart digital lock brands that also use the same protocol, such as Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings. Separately, the SmartThings app is compatible with Matter smart home standard, which means the digital house keys saved on the Samsung Wallet app can unlock digital locks that support NFC or UWB unlocking.

The true benefit to Samsung’s involvement, however, is that the Samsung Wallet app is protected by Samsung Knox. This is built-in security by Samsung that uses both hardware and software layers, which most Samsung Galaxy smartphone users already know protects their personal data from external intrusion.

Samsung said the Digital Home Key feature will roll out to the Samsung Wallet app from March 2026 onwards, globally. The feature’s release will be timed to coincide with launches by smart lock brands.
