Update 2.06.01 for Tekken 8 is now live, with Bandai Namco Entertainment introducing dozens of behavior changes, new items in the shop, and the newest DLC character, Armor King. Tekken 8 players with the Season 2 Character Pass can already play as the game’s newest fighter, while all other fans will need to wait to snag Armor King on October 16.
Released in early 2024, Tekken 8 saw a number of improvements over its predecessors, including upgraded fighting elements and systems and the addition of several new mechanics. While it received universal acclaim at launch, this positivity didn’t last, with Tekken 8‘s botched Season 2 launch prompting many fans to boycott the title until a laundry list of issues were fixed. This included a slew of balance issues and game-breaking interactions, which led to emergency patches to make the game playable again. Thankfully, these fixes have led to Tekken 8 seeing another boost in popularity, with the game boasting an average score of 90 on OpenCritic, though its Steam reviews remain Mixed.
Following the most recent Tekken 8 update in September, Bandai Namco has revealed the full patch notes for Version 2.06.01, with the update’s major highlight being the addition of Armor King as a new playable character. The fighter first appeared in the original Tekken, and those players with the Season 2 Character Pass can snag him now, while the paid DLC character will become available to purchase for all players on October 16. New costume packs have also been added to the Tekken Shop, including the Nightmare Jester Pack and the Whimsical Jester Pack. The Round 7 Fight Pass is also available to buy, and dozens of behavior fixes have been rolled out for the game’s roster.
As the fighting game continues to improve the overall player experience, rumors have begun to swirl that a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Tekken 8 may be on the way, further widening its audience. While no official announcement has been made, the title’s director has expressed interest in the port, stating that while it may be a technical challenge, it may be worth it from a business standpoint.
2025 has been a strong year for fighting games, with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves leaping onto the scene, Street Fighter 6 adding new DLC content, and Tekken 8 continuing to improve. Next year is already promising some unique titles, including a new Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting game and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, though neither has a concrete release date just yet.
