The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) announced on Feb. 20 that it will provide a S$4.3 million Ramadan support package this year. The support, funded by S$3.5 million in Zakat funds and S$800,000 from fidyah contributions, will benefit more than 10,500 recipients, including Zakat beneficiaries, low-income tertiary students and residents from selected welfare homes. The announcement was made by Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim during a buka puasa session with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at Al-Mawaddah Mosque.
