Apple’s rumoured foldable iPhone could feature a thinner and brighter screen, thanks to the adoption of Samsung’s new OLED technology.
TheElec reports that the Samsung-made OLED panel, known as CoE (Colour Filter on Encapsulation), differs from traditional OLED panels, which have a separate polarising film placed above the panel to reduce reflection and improve contrast. Instead, the CoE design applies the colour filter directly onto the OLED’s protective encapsulation layer.
This approach results in a thinner display stack that allows more light to pass through, increasing brightness without negatively impacting power consumption. The reduced panel thickness could also help Apple design a slimmer foldable iPhone.
