A video of Malaysian actress Juin Teh calmly narrating her walk from Singapore to Johor Bahru might look lighthearted at first, but the reality behind it has left many viewers uneasy
The clip, first posted on Teh’s Instagram account @juin66 on 2 January, shows her attempting to walk across the Johor–Singapore Causeway at 6pm, right in the middle of evening rush hour.
She jokingly captioned the experience as the “most thrilling” experience of 2026.
Not long after, a Reddit user reposted the video with a caption that read: “TIL there is no proper pedestrian walkway [on the] JB-SG bridge.”
The post quickly made the rounds online, with many pointing out that it looked both stressful and dangerous.
Why are people even walking the Causeway?
For regular cross-border commuters, the reason is simple: time.
During peak hours, queues for buses heading into Johor Bahru can stretch well beyond an hour, sometimes closer to two if traffic locks up completely. Walking, on the other hand, takes roughly 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the crowd and pace.
Teh herself recently moved back to JB after living in Singapore, a decision she has spoken about openly as a way to reduce rising rental costs. While she usually takes the bus, that evening’s gridlock prompted her to do what many others were already doing: follow the crowd and walk.

What the video captures is a routine workaround for people who cross the Causeway every day.
The most notable part of the video isn’t the walking itself; it’s where the walking stops making sense.
On the Singapore side, there is a clear pedestrian path with proper signage. Once commuters cross into Malaysian territory, the conditions change abruptly.
The pedestrian route becomes inconsistent, then disappears entirely.
In Teh’s video, she and several others are seen standing on a narrow concrete divider, boxed in by fast-moving motorcycles on both sides.
At one point, she hesitates, waiting for a gap in the traffic while bikes continue streaming past. People behind her eventually make a run for it, forcing her to decide whether to dash across as well.
