Samsung Freestyle+ projector: Brighter & smarter

Samsung Electronics has officially announced its next-generation portable projector, the Freestyle+, ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026) in Las Vegas, building on the design and concept introduced by the original Freestyle series. The new model brings notable improvements in brightness and AI-driven picture optimisation, positioning it as a more versatile entertainment device for modern living spaces. 

At the heart of the Freestyle+ is AI OptiScreen, Samsung’s suite of AI-powered screen optimisation tools designed to make setup easier and image quality more consistent across varied environments. This includes 3D Auto Keystone correction for projecting onto uneven surfaces, real-time focus that adjusts as the unit moves, Screen Fit for alignment with compatible screens, and Wall Calibration that analyses surface colour and texture to minimise visual distractions, all enabling a “point, place and play” experience with minimal manual setup. Integration with Vision AI Companion brings enhanced interaction and smart features to the projector’s user interface. 

One of the most tangible hardware upgrades over the Freestyle 2 (and earlier models) is brightness. According to Samsung, the Freestyle+ delivers up to 430 ISO lumens. This number is significant as the company never officially stated how bright previous models could get. However, we now know that this is roughly double the output of its predecessor, addressing one of the long-standing limitations of Samsung’s compact lifestyle projectors and making content clearer in a wider range of lighting conditions. This brightness boost, while still not matching larger home theatre projectors, makes the device more practical for everyday use beyond very dark rooms. 

The Freestyle+ retains the original’s compact, cylindrical form factor with 180-degree rotation that lets it project on walls, floors or ceilings without additional mounts. The built-in 360-degree speaker delivers room-filling audio, and Q-Symphony support allows compatible Samsung soundbars to work in concert for richer sound. On the software side, access to Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Gaming Hub and other streaming services means users can enjoy content directly from the projector without external sources. 

The Freestyle+ is aimed at consumers who want a truly portable big-screen experience without the complexity of traditional home theatre setups. Its combination of enhanced brightness, intelligent auto-adjustment and flexible placement makes it ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, casual movie nights, gaming sessions and on-the-go entertainment. Creators and digital signage enthusiasts may also find value in its improved visibility and smart calibration features, though it remains primarily a lifestyle consumer product rather than a professional display solution. 

While full pricing and regional availability details are still pending, Samsung plans to showcase the Freestyle+ during CES 2026 with a global rollout expected in the first half of the year. We will update this article with pricing and release information when we receive more information.
