In a joint press conference on Dec. 29, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will receive Israel’s highest civilian honour in 2026. The Israel Prize is typically awarded to Israelis. The only other non-Israeli to have received the prize was Indian conductor Zubin Mehta in 1991. Netanyahu also invited Trump to visit Israel on its Independence Day to receive the award.
