EA Responds to Rumors About the Future of Sims 4 Development

A member of The Sims 4‘s community team has just addressed the recent influx of leaks and rumors surrounding the ongoing development of The Sims 4 and the future of the wider Sims franchise, claiming that “misinformation” has been circulating, and confirming that official news is coming at the start of next year. This official comment from EA came just hours after a new leak surfaced allegedly detailing the contents of what could be The Sims 4‘s final expansion pack.

The future of The Sims franchise has been a hot topic in the fan community over the last few months, with several leaks surfacing recently that all claim very different potential scenarios for the series’ direction. The latest rumor appeared on December 23, when X user @phii_oda claimed that The Sims 4‘s 21st expansion pack will be “Royalty” themed and will contain three “kingdom types,” including one based on Africa. In the same X post, the insider also claimed that this 21st expansion pack will be The Sims 4‘s last piece of major content, and that only updates and Kit packs will be added to the game afterward.

EA Says Official Sims 4 News Will Arrive In January 2026

Soon after this leak was posted, a report from the Sims Community website went live discussing the leak’s information. This article was then shared on the Sims 4 Subreddit. Just three hours after hitting the Subreddit, a member of The Sims‘ official community team (Reddit username Mindy_SimsCommunity) replied to the post saying the following:

“Hey Simmers. We know there’s a lot of misinformation going around. We’ll be back in early January with what to know via our official Sims channels. We hope you all enjoy the holidays!”

This Sims community member (who has posted in an official capacity on The Sims Subreddit since May 30) didn’t specify just how much of this leak could be considered misinformation. It seems as though fans won’t have to wait too long to find out, however, as it sounds like EA will be delivering some official updates in early January via its official channels.

It’s important to note as well that this EA community comment could have also been referencing a different rumor first circulated in November via ATRL user ‘gloamingtheplain,’ who claimed that Project Rene’s single-player component (allegedly known internally as ‘Project X’) is going to be sold separately at the end of 2026. According to this leak, this new single-player Sims game might be called The Sims 5, but it won’t be as “complex” as many fans would expect a fully-fledged Sims 4 sequel to be. This leak also claims that the next Sims 4 expansion pack will be its last, though the leaker did not know its theme.

November also saw a rumor surface claiming that The Sims 4 could be receiving some sort of remaster soon, though many in the Sims community have expressed their disbelief in such a project, including Sims content creator SimMattically, who stated on November 19 via an X post that “there’s no Sims 4 remaster.” That said, there are several Sims projects reportedly in the works alongside the long-awaited Project Rene, such as some kind of mobile Sims game and a new platform known as The Sims Hub.
