“1. China 2. Japan 3. Singapore,” said a user who ranked the cleanliness of the countries based on Mr Page’s socks.

While some remarked on how dirty Singapore looked despite the country’s reputation as a garden city, one argued that the comparisons were unfair, noting that the long walk Mr Page took “across the street in Japan could have skewed those results compared to Singapore with a small street crossing and no street in China”.

“That is cleaner then [sic] my home,” one user quipped.

Responding to Mr Page’s question of whether he should visit South Africa or America next, many individuals claiming to be Africans warned him in jest not to try the experiment there.

“I wish to confirm Africa’s withdrawal from the contest due to unavoidable circumstances,” said one.
