Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe has just recently teased that news on the beloved farm simulator’s future is on the way. Since its launch back in 2016, Stardew Valley has become one of the most successful indie titles of all time, and as it inches toward its 10-year anniversary, many players have wondered what’s next for the game.
Last year, Stardew Valley‘s 1.6 update arrived, and it was one of the most substantial updates that the game had seen in its post-launch life. New festivals and events, fresh NPC dialogue, a mastery system, and the addition of the Meadowlands Farm type are just the tip of the iceberg with 1.6. Despite the update bringing plenty of major changes, many were quickly eager to find out if there would be a 1.7 update in the future. Back in August, ConcernedApe finally confirmed players’ suspicions by revealing there would be a 1.7 update, but when it would be ready was another mystery entirely. Beyond 1.7, fans have been waiting for Stardew Valley‘s Switch 2 port ever since the console launched, and while a past Nintendo Direct claimed the port would arrive in “Fall 2025,” it has yet to be seen. However, according to ConcernedApe, news about the port will come “very soon.”
Stardew Valley’s 1.7 Update Hopefully Won’t Make a Mountain Out of a Molehill
If the next update for Stardew Valley isn’t as big fans hope it is, then hopefully ConcernedApe sets expectations for it accordingly before launch.
Stardew Valley’s Switch 2 Port is Closer to Becoming Reality, While Update 1.7 Makes Some Exciting Changes
On Twitter, ConcernedApe was asked if there was any update on the status of Stardew Valley‘s Switch 2 port, and while the developer wasn’t specific about the details, he did say, “I’ll announce something very soon.” With Nintendo promising in the past that Fall 2025 would be the window, there are only a few days left in the season until winter is in full swing. So, when ConcernedApe says, “very soon,” that could mean a few days, or a few weeks or months. It’s difficult to pinpoint, but those waiting to play Stardew Valley on the Switch 2 might not have to wait much longer. The Switch 2 port would upgrade how Stardew Valley is experienced on a Nintendo console, as it utilizes GameShare, 4-player split-screen co-op, and supports the Joy-Con’s PC-like mouse controls, which many see as the ideal way to play the game.
ConcernedApe Shares Details About Update 1.7
In response to another question on Twitter regarding the 1.7 update, ConcernedApe shared some exciting details about what it will feature. More characters and “farm stuff” are planned, and he even hinted at the possibility of a new farm type since it’s “traditional” for updates. Beyond that, ConcernedApe still kept secretive, confirming there were more details to share, but he wanted to wait until the timing was right. Getting further insight into 1.7 is exciting, but the developer didn’t share any hints at a potential release date. Those hoping for Haunted Chocolatier news were unfortunately left empty-handed, as ConcernedApe didn’t mention anything about his next game. The spiritual successor to Stardew Valley was officially announced back in 2021, but since then, updates have been sparse, especially with Stardew Valley taking up a lot of ConcernedApe’s time and energy.
The Game’s 10th Anniversary is Right Around the Corner
- Stardew Valley turns 10 on February 26.
So far, there aren’t any known plans for a Stardew Valley 10-year celebration, but it would be the perfect moment for fresh news. Whether it be the release of the Switch 2 port, more updates on 1.7, or even a Haunted Chocolatier update, February 26, 2026, is an ideal date for at least some kind of announcement. ConcernedApe’s plans for Stardew Valley remain mysterious, but that adds to the excitement. There are still a few weeks left in the year, too, so Stardew Valley‘s Switch 2 edition has the potential to close out the year with a bang. Only time will tell, but based on ConcernedApe’s words, the port feels closer than ever.
