Looking professional during an online meeting or video call is important. Getting good enough lighting during a virtual session is essential, but not all businesses will approve of you getting your own livestreaming ring light for meetings.
Edge Light comes to macOS Tahoe 26.2
Apple addresses this by adding a new Edge Light feature to macOS 26.2 and later. This is a built-in option that virtually imitates a ring light on your Mac display or monitor.
Not only does it come free of charge with your macOS’s video call apps (like FaceTime), you can also pair it with an external camera (going beyond using your Mac device’s built-in Continuity Camera webcam). There’s also no need to grab another app for this feature.
Also, it’s shaped like an actual ring light, but that’s not only for show. Edge Light uses the Apple Neural Engine component on your Mac’s Apple Silicon chipset to detect your face shape, size, and location during the video call. The information is then fed into your Mac’s image-signalling processor, which can select the brightness level to suit the scene (if auto-brightness is enabled).
