Any time a new Tomb Raider game is revealed, there’s guaranteed to be some intense scrutiny around its version of Lara Croft, with her character design and voice being two areas longtime fans hone in on. Fortunately, her new look in the two upcoming games — especially Legacy of Atlantis — seems to be a hit, and it’s easy to imagine new Tomb Raider actor Alix Wilton Regan being well received, too.
To be fair, she’s going to have a high bar to cross, as Lara has had numerous video game voices in the past. These include original voice Shelley Blond, Judith Gibbons from the first two sequels, and Jonell Elliot from the second trio of games. Then there’s Keeley Hawes, who many view as the quintessential voice of Lara Croft, as she nailed the adventurer’s trademark sassiness in Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld. Lara’s most recent video game voice actor is Camila Luddington, who portrayed the young version of Lara seen in the Survivor trilogy, and she’s officially passed the torch to Alix Wilton Regan via a heartfelt Instagram post.
For those unfamiliar with Alix Wilton Regan, one of her most recent video game roles saw her playing Alt Cunningham in Cyberpunk 2077. It takes a lot to stand out in CD Projekt Red’s futuristic RPG, as big-name actors like Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves regularly take the spotlight. Still, Wilton Regan managed to fill Alt Cunningham with life and make her a proper showstealer, making every second of screentime count. While Lara Croft isn’t quite as powerful as Alt, and is a very different character in general, taking a look at Alix Wilton Regan’s career reveals that she has plenty of range.
