Sony held a State of Play Japan a little while back, a special PlayStation broadcast centred on the Japanese and Asian market. The livestream was mostly focused on games, as expected, but one but unexpected hardware announcement was Sony’s new PlayStation-branded gaming monitor.
The monitor bears the rather unceremonious name of ‘27-inch Gaming Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook’, but at least it tells you what you need to know. The charging hook, which supports both DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, does also stow away neatly in the back of the monitor, which doesn’t make it an eyesore when you’re not using it.
Apart from the 27-inch size, the monitor uses a 2560×1440 IPS panel, capable of variable refresh rate. As it uses standard HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 connectors, the monitor is also compatible with PCs and Macs. And speaking of refresh rates, there’s two different caps depending on whether you’re using it with a console or a desktop; it caps out at 120Hz for the PS5 and PS5 Pro, and goes up to 240Hz for PC and Mac.
