Expedition 33 Publisher’s New Game is a Must-Play for Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans

Revealed during the 2025 Game Awards, Solasta 2 is a new title from developer Tactical Adventures and publisher Kepler Interactive, best known for the award-winning 2025 title Expedition 33. Solasta 2 features Dungeons and Dragons-inspired tactical combat and a star-studded cast including a number of names that will be quite familiar to Expedition 33 and Baldur’s Gate 3 fans. Players who enjoyed either of these titles and are looking for another epic fantasy adventure should definitely give Solasta 2 a try when it debuts in 2026.

Solasta 2 Tells A Story About Family, Faith, and Grief

Solasta 2 is the sequel to the 2021 title Solasta: Crown of the Magister, which was successfully funded on Kickstarter. It features the Colwall siblings, who find themselves forced into an ancient conflict following the passing of their mother. The game stars Ben Starr (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Final Fantasy 16) as Rickard, the eldest of the Colwall siblings, Devora Wilde (Baldur’s Gate 3, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33) as Deorcas, another of the Colwall siblings and a fearsome warrior, Amelia Tyler (Baldur’s Gate 3, Hades 2) as Shadwyn, the source of a mysterious corruption that has spread thorughout the land, and Ellen Thomas (Arcane) as Anabasia, a charismatic and manipulative leader.

A press release revealed that the game will involve “navigat[ing] loyalties strained by grief [and] faith tested by darkness, with each step forward revealing how thin the line truly is between devotion and damnation.” It will take place in Neokos, a previously unexplored area of the world first introduced in Solasta: Crown of the Magister. Both new fans and longtime Solasta enjoyers will find something to enjoy in this exciting new title. The story is stand-alone and designed to be accessible to those who have not played the previous Solasta title.

Starr and Wilde both previously appeared in another Kepler title, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, as Verso and Clea. Wilde and Tyler starred as party member Lae’zel and the Narrator respectively in Baldur’s Gate 3. Wilde’s character, Deorcas Colwall, is even described as a powerful warrior who is struggling with her faith in the wake of major revelations, something that brings to mind Lae’zel and the struggle she undergoes when she learns more about the true nature of the githyanki ruler Queen Vlaakith. Starr’s character, Rickard, is described as “a steadfast light in a darkening world,” which could perhaps contrast significantly with the mysterious – but often reliable – Verso, his character in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Solasta 2 will feature tactical turn-based combat, and is described as “implementing the 2024 System Reference Document (SRD) to deliver the definitive Dungeons and Dragons experience.” The trailer briefly showed off grid-based combat, which is somewhat different from Baldur’s Gate 3 and Expedition 33 but similar to the combat style utilized in the original Solasta: Crown of the Magister. Both Baldur’s Gate 3 and Solasta 2 include combat inspired by Dungeons and Dragons, but they handle their adaptation of the popular tabletop role-playing game’s systems in two very different ways. Solasta 2 will also feature a hex-based world map and “random narrative events” that players will encounter as the Colwall siblings travel through the world.

It was also revealed that Solasta 2 will enter Early Access on March 12, 2026. A demo is currently available to download and play for those who are interested in giving the game a try prior to its Early Access launch. It is currently available on PC via Steam. There is also an official Discord server that players can join to learn more about Solasta 2 before and during the Early Access period.
