Minecraft Releases Mounts of Mayhem Game Drop

Minecraft Releases Mounts of Mayhem Game Drop

Mojang has released the Mounts of Mayhem update for Minecraft, bringing lots of new content to Bedrock and Java versions. While some Minecraft players have already had the chance to test some of the new features via Snapshots and Betas/Previews, the official release of Mounts of Mayhem brings the content to the base game.

2025 has already seen a lot of new content come to Minecraft. Mojang previously transitioned to a new update release strategy, and these new updates, called game drops, provided the developer with the opportunity to release new content and features at a faster rate. This year has seen this new release cadence in full effect, with three game drops released so far. Spring to Life launched in March, followed by Chase the Skies in June and The Copper Age in September. With the year winding down, Mojang has rolled out yet another game drop.

Minecraft’s Mounts of Mayhem Introduces the Nautilus

Released on December 9, Mounts of Mayhem is the latest game drop to land in Minecraft. As the name suggests, the major update brings new mounts for players to utilize. Specifically, the Nautilus and Zombie Nautilus have been added to the game as new mobs. They stand out for being water-based mounts, allowing players to travel underwater at 5.4 blocks per second (bps). In addition to improving underwater traversal, players receive the Breath of the Nautilus effect when riding on one, allowing them to preserve their air supply. While players can use pufferfish to lure Nautilus close, Zombie Nautilus are usually accompanied by Drowned riders, which must be dispatched before taming. It is worth noting that the “very rare” Coral Zombie Nautilus can be found, but it is only in one ocean biome type.

More Zombie Mounts Are Lurking in Minecraft’s New Game Drop

Besides the Nautilus, some other Zombie mounts have been introduced. While exploring the Overworld, players can encounter the Zombie Horse, a mob that spawns after dark. As with the Zombie Nautilus, the hostile rider must be unseated before the undead mount can be tamed. Minecraft‘s deserts have also become more exciting thanks to Camel Husks. While these mobs are tameable and can be ridden in daylight, they carry dangerous occupants: a Husk and the new arrow-slinging Parched. Like its mount, Parched can be out in the sunlight without taking damage, making them a potential nuisance.

While Mounts of Mayhem introduces new rideable mobs, it also improves armor. Thanks to the new update, players can now craft Netherite horse armor, helping them better protect their prized steeds. With so many new mounts in Minecraft, it will be interesting to see how combat evolves.

Mounts of Mayhem Adds the Spear

Fortunately, Mojang has introduced the Spear to help fend off monster attacks. While this tiered weapon works well in hand-to-hand combat, it excels when riding a mount since its damage scales based on the speed at which the player is moving. Additionally, the developer has pointed out that the weapon can be effective when paired with an Elytra, as that equipment allows the user to achieve high speeds. It should be noted that the Spear also features a unique Lunge enchantment, which increases the player’s speed when performing a jab attack.

These are some of the new additions Mojang has added to Minecraft with its latest game drop. With this likely to be the last significant update before the end of the year, it will be interesting to see what the developer has in store for 2026. Given Minecraft’s popularity, more changes are likely that could shake up the gameplay experience.
