The establishment of the new embassy was announced by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Dec. 1 during his first state visit to Mexico as president. President Tharman was hosted by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo at the National Palace as both countries commemorated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties. Both leaders made key commitments, including Sheinbaum for Mexico to ratify the Pacific Alliance – Singapore Free Trade Agreement (PASFTA), enhancing trade ties and productive investments for both countries. Singapore is set to become the first associated state of the Pacific Alliance after the PASFTA has been ratified by its member states.
