This post contains spoilers for Kingdom.
2025 has proven to be a phenomenal year for anime fans. Since the beginning of the year, fans have been treated to incredible titles like Solo Leveling and The Apothecary Diaries, which were followed by My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Lord of Mysteries, and Dandadan.
Now that the year is about to end, fans will want to look back and figure out which anime was the most entertaining. Usually, shonen anime take home the cake, as there are just too many of them. However, 2025 featured the return of not one but two outstanding seinen anime, and these were Kingdom and Grand Blue.

Kingdom Is The Best Seinen Anime Of 2025
Kingdom’s Sixth Season Is Almost Flawless
- Kingdom Season 6 has been phenomenal so far
- The new season showcases Xin’s next adventure
Yasuhisa Hara’s Kingdom returned with its sixth season in October 2025. Fans had been waiting for years to watch the installment of the anime and learn about Xin’s next adventure. Normally, seinen titles fail to attract the same number of audiences as their shonen counterparts, but that’s not the case for Kingdom.
In fact, it would be disingenuous to say that Kingdom is not a well-known series, especially when the manga has sold more than 100 million copies. Given its massive fan following, it’s hardly a surprise that Kingdom became one of the most talked about anime on social networking sites in next to no time.
Kingdom’s sixth season is focused on the Bureaucrats Job Arc and the Western Zhao Invasion Arc. The Bureaucrats Job arc has been going on for a while, and it concluded in the sixth season, after which the attention was switched to the Western Zhao Invasion arc. Overall, the sixth season of the anime has proven to be a major hit, and fans have lauded Studio Signpost for its efforts. The sixth season is yet to finish, but there’s no doubt that the quality will remain the same throughout the installment.
Aside from Kingdom, Grand Blue was also a contender for the title of the best seinen anime. The series returned after an absence of more than five years. Unlike Kingdom, Grand Blue is more focused on humor. However, it isn’t entirely transfixed on mindless fun. In fact, Grand Blue tackles some important real-life themes, like those of friendship and hardship.
Anime Studios Needs To Remake Old Seinen Classics
Shonen anime have been dominating the anime industry for ages. Not only are some shonen titles phenomenal, but they are a lot more marketable than seinen titles. However, there is a growing need for more studios to pick up seinen titles. If there were to be a seinen revolution, many titles would greatly benefit from it. One of the biggest beneficiaries would be Kentaro Miura’s Berserk.
It’s widely accepted that the only respectable Berserk adaptation is the one from 1997, which was produced by OLM Team Iguchi. The anime captured the story’s essence, which made it almost impossible to stop watching. In 2016, several studios tried to create an adaptation that would draw fans’ interest. Unfortunately, the use of CGI caused fans to turn their backs on the anime.
Currently, there is no news of any other studio trying its luck at adapting the Berserk anime, which is truly a shame. The manga is amazing and adored by fans throughout the world. It is the highest-rated manga on MyAnimeList, above the likes of One Piece, Steel Ball Run, and Hunter x Hunter. Given Berserk’s popularity, it is quite shocking that a studio like MAPPA or Madhouse hasn’t decided to work on an adaptation.
Tokyo Ghoul is another seinen title that was ruined by the studio’s reckless demeanor. The first two seasons were fine, but after that, everything went downhill. The studio skipped over many important moments for no apparent reason, which killed the hype of the entire series. To this day, fans have been hoping and waiting for news regarding the Tokyo Ghoul remake. Unfortunately, Studio Pierrot hasn’t shown any indication of making a remake.
