The Witcher 4 Addresses Game Awards 2025 Status

Ahead of The Game Awards 2025, Michał Nowakowski, the joint-CEO of CD Projekt Red, has revealed that The Witcher 4 will be a no-show at the presentation. While the upcoming Witcher installment was first unveiled at last year’s event, fans of CDPR’s games will need to keep their expectations in check for The Game Awards 2025.

This year has seen many popular games released, from AAA studios and indie developers alike. With 2025 winding down, the industry is preparing to shine a spotlight on some of the best of these titles at The Game Awards. While the annual presentation hands out awards for various categories, many gamers tune in to learn more about upcoming projects. Despite The Game Awards 2025 still being a few weeks away, CDPR has already addressed whether new content for one of its most anticipated games will be revealed.

What Are the Odds of GTA 6 Trailer 3 Showing Up at The Game Awards

With The Game Awards sure to have its share of exciting reveals, desperate Grand Theft Auto 6 fans may be wondering if a new trailer may appear there.

The Witcher 4 Will Not Reveal a New Trailer at The Game Awards 2025

As part of a recent tweet, Michał Nowakowski talked about The Witcher 4 and The Game Awards 2025. Unfortunately, the joint-CEO of CD Projekt Red revealed that the in-development game would not be shown off at the event on December 11. “We won’t be bringing any new content to TGA this year, but we’re, as always, excited to watch the show and celebrate this amazing industry’s great night alongside all of you,” he said. Given that The Witcher 4 was revealed at The Game Awards 2024 with a cinematic trailer, many fans hoped it would make another appearance this year, potentially with gameplay.

While there will not be a new trailer, The Witcher 4 has been nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. In his tweet, Nowakowski thanked fans who had already voted for the game, noting the significance of their support. It is worth mentioning that the game will go up against some tough competition in the category, with the nominees including 007 First Light, Grand Theft Auto 6, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Resident Evil Requiem. In particular, GTA 6 continues to be one of the most anticipated games in the industry, as the viewership numbers of its trailers have evidenced. The game recently won the Golden Joystick’s version of the most anticipated game award for the second year in a row, so it likely has a good chance of coming out on top at TGA 2025.

Beyond The Witcher 4, there might be another no-show this year from a big developer. Industry insider Jeff Grubb previously claimed that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet would not appear at The Game Awards 2025. While nothing official has been announced by Naughty Dog, the game’s absence would likely not be too surprising, as reports have claimed the project could still be a ways from release. Interestingly, Intergalactic, like The Witcher 4, was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024 in a cinematic trailer.

On the flip side, Exodus was confirmed for The Game Awards 2025. In a new announcement, Archetype Entertainment revealed that a new trailer for the game would premiere at the event. The upcoming sci-fi RPG is the first world premiere announced for The Game Awards, and the trailer will likely give fans a good look at how the game has progressed since its 2023 announcement.

With The Witcher 4’s absence from The Game Awards 2025 confirmed, it remains to be seen when CDPR will show off more of the title. As revealed at last year’s presentation, the game will focus on Ciri, Geralt’s adopted daughter. The developer is utilizing Unreal Engine 5 to make The Witcher 4 and unveiled a tech demo earlier this year. While it was not actual gameplay, it offered a look at the direction the development team was looking to take the game. Specifically, the CDPR hopes to use this engine to create “the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date.”

It should be noted that the game is not expected to launch for a while, with some in the community speculating that 2027 could be the earliest release window. However, the game could be shown off sooner. While The Game Awards is one of the biggest venues to reveal The Witcher 4 news, various events and conventions take place early in the year. Additionally, CDPR could choose to make a separate announcement. Ultimately, fans will have to wait and see when the game is shown off again.
