The Porsche Cayenne goes electric, has up to 1,140hp, and can be charged wirelessly like a phone

Porsche has unveiled the new Cayenne, and as expected, it’s electric-only. Two variants will be available at launch: the Cayenne Electric and the range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric.

Unsurprisingly, the Cayenne Turbo Electric is very fast. Its dual motors deliver up to 850kW (1,140hp) of power, and can propel it from a standstill to 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds. Keep the accelerator pinned and you’ll do 0-200km/h in just 7.4 seconds. Top speed is 260km/h. What’s incredible is that the Cayenne Turbo Electric weighs over 2,600kg.

The entry-level Cayenne Electric has less hard-hitting numbers, but it’s still as sprightly. It has up to 435hp and can do 0-100km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Top speed is 230km/h. You’ll still be one of the fastest cars on the road.

The incredible performance aside, the Cayenne will have fast-charging capabilities. Up to 400kW DC charging means it can get from a 10% charge to 80% in less than 16 minutes. However, this requires a compatible fast charger. Claimed WLTP range is up to 642km for the Cayenne Electric and up to 623km for the more powerful Cayenne Turbo Electric.
