Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has urged Singapore to become a strong ally of Thailand in combatting online scams and expanding intelligence networks during official talks in Singapore.
Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat said Mr Anutin attended an official welcoming ceremony and inspected a guard of honour at Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before holding bilateral discussions with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the ministry on Friday.
Following the meeting, Mr Siripong said Mr Wong emphasised that the visit was of great significance, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Singapore, and reflecting the deep friendship that had existed long before formal diplomatic ties were established.
He reaffirmed the close bond between the peoples and leaders of the two nations, describing it as a firm foundation for their strong and multifaceted cooperation. Mr Wong also expressed his determination to work closely with the Thai prime minister to further advance and strengthen Thailand–Singapore cooperation amid global challenges.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, both leaders agreed that this milestone presented an important opportunity to deepen high-level engagement through royal visits, Mr Wong’s visit to Thailand in November last year, and meetings between the foreign and commerce ministers of both countries. Mr Anutin also extended an invitation to Mr Wong to visit Thailand at a mutually convenient time.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the overall progress of bilateral cooperation and agreed to promote a “forward-looking strategic partnership” to generate shared benefits at both bilateral and regional levels, particularly in the fields of the green economy, digital development, and energy security — which will collectively enhance Asean’s potential.
Regarding the fight against transnational crime, Mr Anutin called for closer cooperation with Singapore, especially in tackling online scams. Thailand will host an international conference on combatting online fraud, and Mr Anutin invited Singapore to be a strong ally in addressing this issue. Both sides agreed to expand intelligence sharing, training, and joint operations.
On economic cooperation and green supply chains, the two leaders welcomed efforts by relevant agencies to explore the feasibility of linking green industrial supply chains and promoting joint investment in clean technologies.
Concerning the green economy and sustainable development, the Thai and Singaporean leaders agreed that this is the way forward. Both countries share the same goals in transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy, striving for carbon neutrality and net-zero emissions by 2050.
