A Singaporean employee’s viral post has sparked a massive online debate after they took to Reddit to ask if they are being a “sensitive snowflake” or if their boss’s behaviour is genuinely toxic.
Despite a contract that explicitly states a Monday-to-Friday, 9am-to-6pm workweek, the OP (Original Poster) claims they are practically expected to be “always online.”
From receiving non-urgent messages past 7pm to being chased for replies while on approved Annual Leave (AL), the employee shared how boundaries have become completely non-existent. On top of that, “voluntary” weekend work has apparently become the norm, yet asking for Off-in-Lieu (OIL) is treated like an absolute “taboo.”
