S’pore Tutor, 40, Clocks 200km Of Travel Within S’pore Weekly To Students’ Homes; Wonders If It’s Time To Buy A Car

Travelling 200km a week sounds tedious. Especially when you’re not even leaving Singapore.

But that’s apparently how much a 40-year-old private tutor in Singapore clocks every week, travelling around our little red dot to get to his students’ homes.

And after years of relying on public transport and the occasional private-hire ride, he’s starting to wonder if it’s finally time to buy a car.

According to a Reddit post, he visits three to four students’ homes a day, mostly by public transport, taking private-hire rides around four times a week when his schedule gets too tight.

All that travelling adds up to roughly 200km a week, excluding Sundays, which he keeps as his day off.

His monthly transport bill is around S$400, including EZ-Link top-ups and private-hire car fares.

“In the past I had no issues running around but now I’m 40 years old, I get super tired rushing here and there every day,” he wrote.

Having never owned a car, the tutor wondered whether he should consider a used COE or PARF car with two to three years remaining.

Netizens had plenty of opinions.
