Parsnip. Cauliflower. And on the darkest nights, maybe even a bit of radish. These are the things that keep virtual farmers awake late at night, after they’ve spent just a little too much time with Stardew Valley. That beloved indie game has entertained players of all ages for years thanks to its low-stress environment, cozy atmosphere, and a rewarding gameplay loop that leaves plenty of room for secrets on top of secrets.
Emberville is the best new Stardew Valley replacement
Perhaps Stardew Valley‘s biggest flaw is that you (probably) can’t play it forever. But what if there were another game of a similar sort, one with many of the elements that made that other experience so rewarding, now with a darker side that will introduce new nightmares you won’t find anywhere near the produce heap? There is such a game, and it’s due to enter Early Access on Oct. 27, just in time for Halloween.
Emberville, the game in question, introduces a ruined town of the same name, which exists within a tortured underground world known as the Vitromotus. At the start of your adventure, you awaken with no memory of who you are, only a desire to escape your current predicament. Your journey through the ruined town prompts the realization that if you help the people rebuild their homes, they might repay you with everything you need to find your way out of your current prison.
As you undertake that task, you’ll get to know a cast of interesting characters, much as players did in Stardew Valley. Your time underground will be anything but solitary. You’ll meet numerous helpful strangers, with some popular voice actors bringing their lines to life. The voice cast of Emberville is stacked, featuring talent that contributed to some of the biggest games in recent memory, from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Pragmata and Baldur’s Gate 3. The talent on hand should go a long way toward ensuring an immersive experience.
