Australia’s workplace regulator, The Fair Work Ombudsman, has put out a helpful graphic for people who might want to take time off when GTA 6 comes out this November. “Let’s pretend GTA 6 is coming out tomorrow, but you don’t have any paid leave available to play on launch day” the graphic says. “Can you take unpaid leave?”
According to the Ombudsman, the National Employment Standards give Australians the right to unpaid leave “under specific circumstances.” So what are those circumstances? Being a carer is one, but that obviously doesn’t apply to playing an open world video game. Helping out with an emergency is another you can scratch off.

Having a child is another valid reason, but even if you worked at Rockstar you’d be hard pressed to argue for GTA 6 being your spawn. Luckily, you can just ask your boss, apparently. If your boss is nice, they’ll give you time off and you can come to an agreement. Is my boss nice? No, he will make me write news stories about it all day.
