Grab Delivery Rider In S’pore Says He Got A S$4 Job To Throw Out Customer’s Four Bags Of Rubbish

According to the screenshots, the rider earned S$4 for completing the job.

He questioned why such a request could be made through the platform in the first place, calling the situation “too much”.

The rider also claimed he was worried that rejecting the job could affect his rating, so he ultimately went through with the request.

Order delivered? Technically, we suppose.

The customer appears to have made the request through GrabExpress, Grab’s courier and delivery service.

According to Grab’s website, GrabExpress can be used to send items such as parcels, documents, food and flowers.

The platform also lists items that can’t be delivered, including certain fragile goods requiring special handling, flammable items, prohibited goods and items worth more than S$500.

Then there’s the slightly existential delivery question: If the pick-up and drop-off addresses were the same, was anything technically being delivered at all?

Or did one Singaporean just discover a very creative way to outsource taking out the trash for S$4?

8days.sg reached out to Grab about the unusual booking, and the company confirmed it was aware of the incident.

According to Grab, taking out someone’s rubbish isn’t what GrabExpress is meant for.

“GrabExpress is a courier service dedicated strictly to transporting documents, parcels, and personal and retail goods,” a Grab spokesperson told us.

“Waste management usually requires specific safety protocols, handling procedures, and licences that fall outside the scope of our courier service.”

Grab also says he could have declined it without penalty.

“Our delivery partners are fully empowered to decline any non-compliant requests without penalty,” said the spokesperson.

The company also reminded users to use its services only for their intended purposes and encouraged both customers and delivery partners to report misuse through Grab’s in-app Help Centre so it can investigate.
