How AI training is becoming part of Singapore’s workforce strategy

At the launch of the SkillsFuture Festival 2026, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said that AI would reshape work across every part of Singapore’s economy. He stressed that the jobs that remain will change in content, required skills and career pathways. 

This new AI initiative sits inside a larger restructuring of Singapore’s workforce and training support. 

The Singapore Government’s response is increasingly focused on pairing training with access to the tools themselves. As part of this, the focus is moving away from treating AI courses as standalone training and towards linking them with actual tools, career guidance and workplace use. 

It follows comments the Prime Minister made earlier in 2026, when he noted that many Singaporeans were already using AI but often only as an enhanced search tool. The aim, he said, was to help workers go beyond basic querying and learn how to use AI more productively. 

Also announced yesterday, the SWDA opened “Connect by SWDA” at the Lifelong Learning Institute in Paya Lebar. The centre combines career guidance, learning support and employment assistance, while employers can get help with job redesign, workforce transformation and training. 

To help Singapore workers find out how much they already know, or still need to learn about, AI, SWDA has introduced an AI Ready Quiz with the Singapore Institute of Technology. The online assessment contains 12 questions, takes about 15 minutes and produces a personalised AI readiness profile with recommended courses and learning resources.

Singtel AI Pass fits neatly into that model.

Rather than having to try different AI tools on their own, Singtel’s AI Pass gives learners access to multiple AI tools designed for specific tasks, such as research, automation, meetings and transcription, multimedia creation, and agent-based work.

The AI Pass voucher is also personal and non-transferable. Learners need to redeem it through CAST.SG and use the same email address when activating the included tools. The bundle is also tied to selected SWDA-supported courses rather than being free to every Singtel subscriber.

Under Singtel’s AI Pass, Singtel is acting as the platform and access provider for AI Pass rather than the developer of the AI tools themselves. Its terms state that each service remains subject to the individual provider’s terms, and Singtel does not guarantee or take responsibility for how these tools perform. `

For workers interested in AI but unsure where to start, that lowers one of the more practical barriers. For just S$550 (and they don’t even need to pay it themselves), they get access to several paid subscriptions while learning which one is useful.

This matters because understanding AI in theory and knowing how to fit it into actual work are two different skills.

A worker might use Otter.ai to turn meetings into notes and action items, Manus to research and assemble a presentation, or MiniMax Agent to automate routine tasks. These are far better learning experiences than sitting through a course without ever touching the tools.
