For those too young to have attended a live concert by Hong Kong Cantopop icon Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing, who died on April 1, 2003, appreciation often relies on recordings of his performances and exhibitions dedicated to his career and legacy.
While many retrospectives over the years have celebrated Cheung’s achievements and influence in film and music, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum’s latest offering, “Miss You Much. Leslie 70th Birthday. Exhibition”, offers a much more intimate and rare look at his private life and his relationship with fans. Cheung would have turned 70 on September 12.
Running from September 9 to May 10 next year to commemorate Cheung’s 70th birthday, the showcase features more than 300 exhibits lent by his long-time partner Daffy Tong Hok-tak, his manager Florence Chan Sock-fun and Cheung’s industry friends, alongside items from the museum’s own collection.
