Childcare leave changes to take ‘at least several months’ to implement: Indranee Rajah


Ms Indranee said that when the government was deciding on the size of the package, it looked at the “essential costs that families typically face as a child grows”.

The costs include food, utilities, healthcare, preschool and education.

She added that the intention was not to cover “every single expense” but to give additional support to parents and families, noting that “the expenditure varies depending on their circumstances and their choices”.

“But what we wanted to do was to make sure that there was enough support to defray essential expenses while at the same time remaining fiscally sustainable,” she said.
