StarHub’s added 5G band automatically applies to new and existing customers for better coverage

StarHub today (1 September 2026) announced that it has deployed the 700MHz spectrum to its existing 5G network, and it applies to both new and existing StarHub 5G mobile plan customers.

Adding 700MHz to StarHub’s 5G to better penetrate your phone

Prior to this update, StarHub’s 5G network relied on 3.5GHz and 2.1GHz spectrums. Adding 700MHz adds another level of reliability and reach.

While those original bands are sub-6GHz and provide some 5G speeds without sacrificing coverage, they don’t have the same deep penetration seen in 5G frequency bands operating at the megahertz level.

The deployment of 700MHz alleviates that. According to StarHub, this addition lets its 5G network penetrate harder-to-reach spaces. Examples given include basements, crowded malls, indoor spaces, and underground areas.

This AI-generated infographic explains how low-frequency 5G bands trade speed for better coverage, using StarHub’s declared 5G bands as a reference point. This representation is strictly for clarity and not indicative of real-world speeds or performance.

For the end user, this also means better network reliability, with fewer random disconnects and a lower likelihood of speed or consistency bottlenecks when moving between open and indoor spaces.

The added 700MHz compatibility applies to both new and existing StarHub 5G customers, and depends on your phone model.

Fortunately, this band is already supported on 5G-capable phones, as far back as the Apple iPhone 12, Google Pixel 6, and Samsung Galaxy S10. If you’re using a high-end, premium, or even midrange 5G-enabled smartphone that was launched within the last five years, there’s a very high chance that your handset can take on StarHub’s 700MHz 5G band without needing special configurations for your device.

For some users, this would not be their first time experiencing wider and deeper 5G coverage, as the first telco to add a 700MHz 5G band is Singtel.

Celebratory 50% off selected plans for new users, free ice cream

StarHub is pleased that it can penetrate and reach places where it matters to you. To celebrate the deployment of the 700MHz band, the green camp telco is running a promotion.

For new sign-ups and port-ins, StarHub’s no-contract Unlimited Max+ and Platinum plans get 50% off for six months from 1 September 2026.
