SINGAPORE – One person has died after a fire broke out at an HDB flat in Lorong Lew Lian, in Upper Serangoon, on Sept 1.
Three others were taken to hospital, and about 30 people were evacuated.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that it was alerted to the fire at Block 8 Lorong Lew Lian at around 2.45pm that day.
Black smoke was emitting from a unit on the third floor when SCDF officers arrived.
The fire, which involved contents of the living room, was extinguished using a water jet, said the SCDF.
During the firefighting operation, an unconscious person was found in the living room.
Firefighters took the person out of the unit and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The person was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
In a Facebook post on Sept 1, Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC MP Seah Kian Peng said he was alerted to a fire at a block in his constituency.
“Very unfortunate and sad that the occupant did not survive the fire. I have known him for many years now and, in fact, last saw him not so long ago,” he added.
“As he has been a resident here for many years and is by nature a friendly person, he will be missed. May he rest in peace.”
