Netflix K-drama Mousetrap: Ryu Jun-yeol leads slick but sluggish mystery thriller

Netflix Korea releases major new Korean dramas year-round, but it has quietly made a habit of reserving August for some of its most daring offerings – shows such as Mask Girl (2023), The Frog (2024) and Aema (2025), which deliver a cocktail of stylish thrills and generally arrive on the streaming service under a veil of mystery.
That tradition continues this year, as South Korea looks forward to winding down one of its hottest summers on record, with the release of the enigmatic thriller Mousetrap. Starring Ryu Jun-yeol (Reply 1988) and Sul Kyung-gu (Hyper Knife), the series follows two very different men whose lives are manipulated by the same veiled figure.

Based on the webtoon Deuljwi (whose title has been translated as both “Field Mouse” and “The Rat Trap”) by Ludovico, the series stars Ryu as Je Moon-jae, a man with severe anxiety who never leaves his sleek, sky-high flat in the middle of Seoul.
