China Street Hum Jin Pang at Maxwell Food Centre has quietly shuttered after over 40 years in business.
The hawker stall was known for letting customers fry their own savoury dough fritters, priced at $1 for five pieces.
China Street Hum Jin Pang’s closure was announced on Monday (Aug 24) via an Instagram video by Deitrich Mohan, third-generation owner of Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake in the same food centre.
According to the 43-year-old, the stall closed some time last week after the owners “called it quits”.
“They’re done making it, and we’ll probably never experience something like that ever again,” he said, lamenting that this was the end of yet another traditional dish in Singapore.
In the clip, Deitrich also showed the unit previously occupied by the heritage stall was undergoing renovation. A congee stall will be opening in its place, he said.
