Cyclists and PMD users fined in Singapore enforcement operation


SINGAPORE – A group of cyclists who were seen in a viral video being chased by the Traffic Police (TP) in the early hours of Aug 15 were among 18 people caught flouting various traffic rules.

In a statement on Aug 23, the police said it had on Aug 14 conducted a joint enforcement operation with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) against errant cyclists and personal mobility device (PMD) users in the vicinity of Jalan Anak Bukit and West Coast Highway.

A total of 17 cyclists and one PMD user were nabbed and issued composition fines, with 26 offences detected.

The police said 13 cyclists were caught on the road during the hours of darkness without displaying the required white light at the front and/or red light or red reflector at the rear.

Ten of the cyclists nabbed were also caught riding a bicycle on a road without wearing a protective helmet.
