Car resembling old-school Hong Kong taxi goes on sale for $168,888, Lifestyle News

The car’s registration date was in July 1982 and has six years 10 months left on its Certificate of Entitlement (COE). It has a mileage of 368,999 km and had three owners.

On the listing, the owner, Jack Yong, shared that he is looking for someone to take over and appreciate the car because it is under utilised by him. 

This is not the first time the vehicle has made headlines.

It went viral in 2024 after Jack was issued a warning from the Land Transport Authority (LTA). 

The notice, which Jack discovered tucked under his car’s windscreen wiper, said that drivers are not allowed to modify their vehicles to look like taxis. 

To avoid trouble, he removed the taxi sign from the top of the car. 

Jack had spent a year refurbishing the entire car after he bought it second-hand in April 2023 from a relative of its previous owner for a five-figure amount.

He ordered decals resembling those on Hong Kong taxis and had them applied to his car in Johor Bahru.

After receiving the notice, he shared that he had considered exporting the vehicle to Malaysia as a collectible and had submitted an appeal to the authorities to allow him to keep some of the taxi-related props in the car.
