Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds with replaceable batteries

Despite shifting to a user-replaceable battery, Sennheiser has managed to cram 12 hours of battery life into the earbuds, with an additional two charges in the charging case for a total of 40 hours. It’s particularly impressive when you compare it to competitors like the Sony WF-1000XM6, Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro, and Apple AirPods Pro 3, which typically offer around 8 hours of battery life from a single charge.

Inside, the earbuds get Sennheiser’s iconic 7mm TrueResponse dynamic transducer that’s made in the Tullamore factory. There’s support for AptX Adaptive up to 24-bit and 96 kHz, as well as AptX Lossless and Bluetooth 6.0 compatibility. If you have a Snapdragon Sound-compatible device, the earbuds will also support it.

Additionally, the earbuds get interactive head-tracking and are optimised for Dolby Atmos, which is a nice upgrade from the Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds.

The hybrid adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) system has been reworked, with a dedicated four-microphone array paired with a redesigned ear tip. Sennheiser claims the earbuds have the most natural-sounding Transparency mode to date, which we’ll definitely be eager to test against the AirPods Pro 3.

To house all of that, Sennheiser has come up with a new earbud design that was derived from ear data gathered from thousands of scans. The new design looks sleeker and less bulky, which should result in extra wearing comfort for people with smaller ears. The charging case has also been redesigned to fit better into pockets, with a low-friction finish.

On paper, these look like they could give the likes of Apple and Sony a real fight, particularly in terms of battery life and repairability. Hopefully, they’ll sound good and have the ANC performance to match.

Pricing and availability

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds retail from S$479 and come in five colourways: Graphite, Copper, Cream, Denim and Lavender.

Preorders start on 26 August with general availability at Sennheiser’s website and all Sennheiser retailers starting on 3 September onwards.
