86-year-old resident sent to hospital after electric mahjong table catches fire in Tampines


Electric mahjong table fire extinguished by public before SCDF arrived

An 86-year-old man was sent to the hospital last Saturday (8 Aug) night after an electric mahjong table caught fire in Tampines.

In a TikTok livestream, the wall outside a window on the ninth floor of the block was observed to be blackened.

Police & SCDF arrive at Tampines block

The footage showed at least two fire engines in the carpark next to the block, with firefighters at the scene.

More firefighters and police officers were in the void deck, part of which was cordoned off.

Paramedics appeared to be attending to someone sitting at the void deck.

A photo shared on Facebook by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo revealed that several Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) vehicles were deployed, including an ambulance.
