While Golden Mile Special Yong Tau Foo has called it a day, those who visit Golden Mile Food Centre will still spot familiar faces at the stall.
Just a day after the heritage yong tau foo business ceased operations on July 31, a new business has opened in its place — Chng’s Desserts.
As it turns out, the stall is run by Chng Fang Khiang, 63, and his two sisters — the second-generation owners of Golden Mile Special Yong Tau Foo.
The decision was made to shutter the yong tau foo business after Fang Khiang’s eldest sister chose to retire, he told Shin Min Daily News.
When asked if he considered hiring staff, Fang Khiang said it’s difficult for others to get used to the demanding nature of the job.
“It’s best that we run the business ourselves,” he said.
