Shark cordless vacuums with Reverse Clean Technology

Shark has unveiled its next generation of cordless vacuums, but hold your thoughts if you think the new PowerClean 360, EvoPower Boost+ and EvoPower Boost are your run-of-the-mill models. Their standout feature is not something you usually see on a cordless vacuum: They can pick up dirt even when being pulled backwards,

It’s what Shark calls Reverse Clean Technology. An active flap built into the brush roll allows the vacuum to continue collecting dirt when it is pulled backwards. That should, in theory at least, mean fewer passes over the same patch of floor, although we will have to try it for ourselves once we start on our review.

All three models also use the company’s new PowerDetect Intelligence system, which is really a combination of three sensors that help the vacuum to recognise whether it is travelling over carpet or hard flooring. It will then increase suction power accordingly.

The $849 PowerClean 360 gets the complete set of features and is very much the flagship of the range. Besides Reverse Clean and PowerDetect, it comes with Shark’s Anti Hair Wrap Brush Roll, that helps to stop hair from becoming tangled around it. There is also an Auto-Empty Dock, which isn’t very common for cordless vacuums. Unlike some docking stations that require proprietary dust bags, Shark’s is bagless and uses a HEPA filter. It comes with the Multi-Flex wand as well, allowing it to bend in the middle and reach beneath beds, sofas and other low furniture without requiring quite as much crouching.

Then there’s the $749 EvoPower Boost+. It also comes with the Auto-Empty Dock but at 1.7kg, is an alternative for anyone who wants a lighter vacuum. Below that is the S$649 EvoPower Boost, which weighs even lighter at just 1.5kg and is intended for smaller homes, or for quick cleaning runs. The difference between the two EvoPower models largely comes down to the dock and weight. The Boost+ is slightly heavier but empties itself after use, while the regular Boost is cheaper and lighter but requires its dust cup to be cleared manually. Both retain Shark’s new intelligent cleaning features.

When are these cordless vacuums available?
