While some viewers were surprised at the mall’s late-night offerings, others were more struck by something else: that a young woman felt comfortable cycling to the mall alone in the middle of the night.

One Instagram comment, which has racked up more than 5,000 likes, read: “When your government takes care of you so you can actually be outside at night! As a woman!”

Another, with more than 3,000 likes, said: “If a woman’s cycling at 2 in the morning to grab food, it shows how safe this country is.”

Many overseas viewers said the video reminded them what they missed most about Singapore, while one quipped: “Meanwhile in Australia all the cafes close at 2pm…”

A TikTok user from the Philippines said the video made them envious, joking: “Cries in Philippines.”

However, not everyone agreed with the sentiment.

Some pointed out that women should still exercise caution, with one commenter writing: “Actually there were cases of women getting raped after midnight at secluded spots.”

Another replied that while “crime will always exist”, Singapore is “in a pretty good place” compared with countries where many people don’t feel safe going out after dark.

Others also advised Jaedyn to avoid dark or secluded routes and to continue taking precautions during her late-night cycling trips.
