Crimson Desert’s latest update makes it worth it to play as Damiane and Oongka

Pearl Abyss’ latest update for Crimson Desert follows through on a promise to make Damiane and Oongka more interesting to play as. Both characters now have access to many more outfits and can enter the Abyss.

When it launched in March, Crimson Desert focused on a character named Kliff, but eventually let players take control of Damiane and Oongka as well. For as vast of a game as Crimson Desert is, Damiane and Oongka did not feel quite as fleshed out as Kliff. They had fewer customization options, couldn’t access certain areas of the world, and generally lacked as many helpful abilities as Kliff.

In a roadmap for future updates released in June, Pearl Abyss promised that “Damiane and Oongka’s overall gameplay experience will be improved,” and that “various adjustments will be made so that all three playable characters can get a share of the spotlight.”

With Patch 1.13, we’re seeing some of those adjustments. On the customization front, Oongka can now wear most of the same outfits as Kliff, with 39 new pieces added in this update. Meanwhile, Damiane can now equip outfits based on the Odeck, Dark Marksman, and Masked Liberator bosses in addition to eight new pieces of armor.

Damiane and Oongka finally have the ability to enter the Abyss, too, letting players access a major part of the game that was previously locked off from those characters. The locations of memory fragments in the Abyss have also been reshuffled, giving players a reason to revisit this area with those characters if they want to fight some bosses again.

While these aren’t game-changing improvements, they do show that Pearl Abyss is committed to delivering on its promises in Crimson Desert’s latest roadmap. This update also added some other exciting new features that weren’t teased before, like letting pets rest with the player when they’re in bed or letting players hide the minimap and other HUD elements through the game’s settings.

Patch 1.13 is now available across PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. You can check out the full list of patch notes below.
