Steal a Brainrot Dev Is Suing Fortnite Copycat

The developer behind the wildly popular Roblox game Steal a Brainrot is suing the maker of what it is calling a copycat game within Fortnite. The developer of the original Roblox version of Steal a Brainrot is hoping to have the alleged Fortnite clone taken down and to receive damages and any profits that have been generated from the game.

Steal a Brainrot‘s popularity within Roblox has been astounding, with the title achieving viral status and securing a record of over 25 million concurrent players in October 2025 and achieving nearly 6 billion plays overall. The meme-based treasure hunting-style game has consistently held its position in the top 3 of Roblox games, and has even helped to propel Roblox itself to new records, with Roblox reaching over 47 million concurrent players in September.

Roblox Steal a Brainrot Dev Sues Fortnite Game Creator

Unfortunately, it seems the outrageous popularity of Steal a Brainrot has led to a copycat appearing within Fortnite. Developer Spyder Games, which created the original Steal a Brainrot Roblox game, filed a suit against an individual named Thomas Van Der Voort, the creator of a Fortnite game called Stealing Brainrots. Spyder Games alleges Stealing Brainrots is a copycat of its own game, Steal a Brainrot, and is infringing upon its copyright. The game appeared in Fortnite back in July, and Spyder Games’ legal representation claims that the title has copied Steal a Brainrot‘s “protectable expressions,” including art and game design. Spyder Games’ goal is to have the game taken off of the Fortnite platform and any profits generated from it to be handed over to the developer of the original Roblox game. As of this writing, the map has seemingly been disabled on Fortnite, though it’s not clear if that was a move on Epic Games’ part or the creator of Stealing Brainrots.

While the main goal of the developer seems to be protecting the original Roblox Steal a Brainrot game, taking down Stealing Brainrots would likely also help another Fortnite title. Another version of the Roblox Steal a Brainrot game, called Steal The Brainrot, is an officially licensed version that has permission to run on the Fortnite platform. Given the similarities of the titles, themes, and gameplay, it’s entirely possible that some Fortnite players have stumbled into the allegedly infringing Stealing Brainrots instead of playing Steal The Brainrot. While Steal The Brainrot has seen quite a bit of success in Fortnite, removing Stealing Brainrots would likely steer even more players to the licensed title.

As this case was only filed on October 23, there hasn’t been an official public response from the developer behind the alleged copycat game yet. It remains to be seen if the defendant attempts to contest the suit, but given the nearly identical titles and extremely similar gameplay, in such an event, it would likely be difficult for Van Der Voort to win. In the meantime, players who may have accidentally stumbled into Stealing Brainrots may want to check out the officially licensed Steal The Brainrot within Fortnite, or the original version in Roblox.
