MacBook Neo leads Apple sales in Q1 2026

IDC added that demand for the MacBook Neo has exceeded expectations in several markets. In India, for example, retailers are reportedly struggling to secure sufficient inventory.

While the US accounted for 44% of total MacBook Neo shipments, IDC believes the device’s growing popularity could reshape Apple’s strategy in price-sensitive markets. Traditionally, Apple has relied on discounted older MacBook models to compete in the entry-level notebook segment. The success of the MacBook Neo suggests the company may now have a purpose-built product capable of attracting first-time Mac buyers and Windows users looking for a more affordable alternative.

Apple’s move into the lower-cost laptop category has already sent shockwaves through the PC industry. S.Y. Hsu described the MacBook Neo’s pricing strategy as “a shock to the entire industry”, noting that Windows PC manufacturers are scrambling to formulate a response.

However, sustaining the MacBook Neo’s momentum may prove challenging. The ongoing global memory chip shortage continues to put pressure on Apple’s supply chain and manufacturing costs. Former Bloomberg journalist Tim Culpan recently claimed that Apple is considering discontinuing the entry-level 256GB configuration and offering only the 512GB model. Rising component costs could also force the company to revisit its pricing strategy.
