The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond marketing campaign is beginning in earnest, having just yielded two holiday-themed ads promoting Nintendo’s next big platform exclusive. Apart from advertising the hardware capabilities of the Switch 2, the promos also offer a few glimpses at some previously unseen Metroid Prime 4 gameplay footage.
June 13 marked the eighth anniversary of Metroid Prime 4‘s original announcement. A lot has changed since the E3 2017 reveal, which presented the game as a Bandai Namco project before Nintendo rebooted it under Retro Studios in 2019. Back in September, Metroid Prime 4 finally locked down a release date: December 4, 2025. Contrary to some fans’ expectations, however, Nintendo did not start advertising the game on any significant scale immediately following that announcement.
Metroid Prime 4 Showcases Boss Fights in New Ads
The company’s marketing efforts appear to be ramping up as of the second half of October 2025, when two new Metroid Prime 4: Beyond ads started making the rounds on social media. Both double as advertising for the Switch 2, presenting Nintendo’s latest hybrid console as the ideal way to “power up” one’s holidays. The two videos—which are currently unlisted on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel, but were dug up by FamiBoards user BackwardsCompat—feature two Metroid Prime 4 bosses: one that looks like a giant plant, and another shaped like an alien-looking spherical contraption.

The sphere boss was not seen in any prior marketing materials. The plant creature is less of an unknown; it’s called Carvex, and was first featured in the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond trailer from the March 2025 Nintendo Direct. Since that three-minute video served as an extended introduction to Viewros, Carvex will most likely be found somewhere on that planet, perhaps at the end of its jungle biome that was featured prominently throughout the trailer.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be a cross-gen title, available on both the Switch and Switch 2. However, the newly emerged ads unsurprisingly focus on Nintendo’s newer device, highlighting features such as Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and 120fps gameplay. The upcoming action adventure will thus be one of the first titles to take advantage of not just the Switch 2’s 120Hz display but also offer 120 frames per second while docked (in Performance mode).
