gonna get hot and bothered 🥵 El Niño conditions are likely to form in Singapore between June and July 2026, according to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS). A positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is also expected to develop in the 2nd half of the year. These climate patterns are projected to bring warmer and drier weather across Singapore and the surrounding region from June to October 2026, MSS said. It will also increase the risk of transboundary haze affecting Singapore and the region. El Niño is a naturally occurring climate pattern characterised by changes in both the ocean and atmosphere within the equatorial Pacific, and usually lasts 9-12 months. It can bring “widespread and, at times, severe changes in the global climate”, said the National Environment Agency (NEA). IOD is similar to El Niño, but occurs in the equatorial Indian Ocean and spans a shorter duration, typically ending by December to January. Video via Canva #mothershipenvironment
