The upcoming Fable reboot has been delayed, Xbox announced in an X post on Friday. Previously planned for a fall 2026 release, Fable will now launch in February 2027, though a specific release date has not been set.
The post outlines several big-ticket video games yet to come out this year, like Halo: Campaign Evolved and Grand Theft Auto 6, and attributes the delay to effectively getting Fable out of the way of all those other games. “In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves,” Xbox stated.
On an episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty said Fable is in a good place in its development. “The game is in great shape. The team feels really good. We’re excited about where the game is,” he said. “We really just wanted [Fable] to have its own moment to shine.”
Despite the delay, Xbox will still share a “major new look” at the game during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. The showcase will include new game announcements and in-depth looks at upcoming releases, like Gears of War: E-Day.
