Sony Alpha 7R VI: New mirrorless camera unveiled

Sony has officially announced the new Sony Alpha 7R VI, and this time, the company is aiming to close the gap between ultra-high-resolution photography and flagship-level speed.

As the successor to the A7R V from 2022, the A7R VI comes with a new 66.8-megapixel full-frame stacked Exmor RS sensor that is paired with Sony’s latest BIONZ XR2 image processor. That combination allows the A7R VI to shoot blackout-free bursts at up to 30fps, which is a significant jump from the 10fps limit on the previous model.

On paper at least, it almost feels like Sony is borrowing ideas from its faster Alpha 1 and Alpha 9 series cameras instead of keeping the 7R lineup strictly for slower-paced landscape or studio work. The A7R VI also gains Sony’s updated AI-powered Real-time Recognition AF+ system for improved autofocus tracking across humans, animals, birds and vehicles.
